WRS Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports

Parent Letter

Transcript:

“Dear Parents,

Wrightson Ridge School’s Positive Behavior Intervention System (PBIS) program was developed by the University Of Arizona College Of Education, PBIS.org, and with the teachers and staff. It is a school wide plan which promotes positive behaviors from all students and staff. Wrightson Ridge is proud to incorporate this program in an effort to continuously improve our school as well. We have implemented the Wrightson Ridge Roadrunner Reward (Caught in the Act!) and continue to help students Lead with Excellence! As an effective way to communicate between home and school, we are sending a copy home of two of the forms we use as a part of the program. Parents, if you have further questions please do not hesitate to contact the office.

PBIS Program:
The focus of this program is to catch kids doing things right and praising them for it. Then, the
secondary focus is to re-teach correct behaviors to those who need reinforcement.

If a student is forgetting to follow the school rules, the following steps are taken:

  • Reminders
  • Offtrack Tickets: are given if negative behavior continues
    • Teacher or Staff member giving the Offtrack Ticket needs to fill out the rule that was broken and the consequence
    • White copy needs to go home, get signed, AND returned by the student the following day
    • Yellow copy goes to the classroom teacher for their record
    • Pink Copy goes to the counselor
    • 3 Offtrack Tickets in a quarter leads to an automatic discipline referral to the principal
  • Referrals
  • Discipline Referrals: are given in the event of a serious offense. Discipline referrals result in the
student being sent straight to an administrator.
  • Administrators will consider the following general factors when determining appropriate
    disciplinary consequences:

    • The age of the student
    • The ability of the student to understand that the conduct was prohibited
    • The motivation for the misconduct
    • The ability of the student to understand the potential risk of the misconduct to the health and/or safety of others and their property
    • The ability of the student to understand the potential of the disruption to the Institutions
    • The ability of the student to understand the potential for disciplinary consequences
    • The potential and actual jeopardy to the members of the educational community and their property resulting from the misconduct
    • The severity of the actual result of the misconduct
    • The repetition of incidents of misconduct either with or without disciplinary intervention between the separate incidents

If a student by following the school rules, the following steps can be taken:

  • Verbal Praise given to a student FOLLOWING the BEEP Rules
    • Students following the rules are given Verbal Praise. As their positive behavior continues it is up to the teacher’s discretion as to when to go to the next step, a Roadrunner Reward
  • Roadrunner Rewards are given to a student when they:
    • Go above and beyond expectations
    • Are showing major improvements in their behavior
    • Have been noticed Leading with Excellence multiple times
    • When a student receives a Roadrunner Reward:
      • The staff member that “caught” the student in the positive act will fill out the reward
      • A portion of the slip will be cut off and will be kept at school, indicating which student received the reward. The student will be entered into a drawing for a weekly prize.”
