Dear Sahuarita Families:

Sahuarita Unified School District is committed to fostering a strong partnership with parents to ensure the highest quality education for our students, with open communication being fundamental to this partnership. For this reason, we want to make you aware of the facts surrounding the evacuation of Sahuarita High School that occurred today.  

We received notice this morning of a suspicious device discovered in the boy’s bathroom near the Sahuarita High School Stadium. We involved law enforcement immediately and put our safety procedures into motion. The Sahuarita Police Department and Rural Metro Fire promptly responded, with local law enforcement taking command of the situation.

Sahuarita High School students and staff were evacuated to the SUSD Auditorium as a precautionary measure, and because of the nature of the evacuation, dismissal was delayed for other school campuses.

A thorough investigation was conducted, including a comprehensive search of the campus. The Sahuarita Police Department determined that the campus was clear of any threat and that the suspicious device did not pose an explosive risk. The investigation by the Sahuarita Police Department remains ongoing.  

We commend our staff and students for their exemplary handling of the situation, which underscores the effectiveness of our safety protocols. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the first responders for their swift response and assistance. Thank you for your unwavering trust and support.
