Sahuarita, AZ –Sahuarita Intermediate School is vying for a $10,000 grant from Frigo Cheese and National Geographic. Frigo Cheese Heads Build a Bright Future promotion will be giving away money to schools, and the public gets a say on which school will win.

Volunteer coordinator, Jessica Grimm heard about the competition and decided to apply. Grimm pointed out that the school had recently renovated a dilapidated locker room into a new space for music. However the space is a blank canvas and there are no instruments, music resources, or a sound system for the music teacher to use to catapult her passion for music into these bright, young students.

Principal Clarisa Nido notes, “Music education is very important in the elementary classroom.  It helps build self-confidence in all students and provides for a dynamic and creative learning experience.”

Winning the prize could mean instruments, a sound system, and a musical library of resources for the school. Students at Sahuarita Intermediate School would be able to participate in a truly one-of-a-kind ensemble and make music that would otherwise not be possible.

“What I want most for them is to go beyond just playing the music, but to experience the feelings of joy, discovery, success and the human connection that is made when we come together and let the music flow, commented music teacher, Janis Hedin.
