Sahuarita Unified School District offers a comprehensive curriculum and an array of rigorous courses and activities directly aligned to Arizona State Standards and student academic achievement.

When planning for the selection, adoption and implementation of new curriculum material, a thorough review process takes place.

A need is established:
  • Strengths and weaknesses of current curriculum are considered.
  • Sequences of study are reviewed.
  • Other subject areas in the curriculum are considered for the potential of integration and correlation.
  • Student achievement and perception data are analyzed.
  • National and state curriculum content standards and prominent literature in the field are reviewed.
A committee is formed:
  • Committee consists of teachers, parents, students, and administrators
  • A review of an array of materials from publishers takes place
  • Each set of curriculum materials is assessed based on a rubric
  • Based on the evaluation, the committee recommends a set of curriculum materials to be adopted
Public review of curriculum:
  • In accordance with ARS 15-721 and 15-722(B), new textbooks must be placed on display for a period of 60 days prior to official adoption by the Governing Board.
  • Materials are on public display in the District Administration office
  • If available, electronic materials are posted on the District website.
  • Printed and electronic feedback forms are available for public comment
Implementation of adopted curriculum:
  • If curriculum materials are approved for adoption, professional development is provided to teachers prior to implementation in the classroom
